AZ91D Magnesium Casting Machining
We review AZ91D casting parts for CNC milling, turning, and related machining. Before discussing a quotation, we confirm the casting condition, available machining stock, critical dimensions, inspection needs, and whether the required magnesium-chip and dust safety controls can be met.
Send us your casting drawing and material details for an initial review. We confirm manufacturing feasibility and safety conditions before preparing a quotation.
Safety is a quote gate
We do not assume standard equipment or housekeeping arrangements are suitable for magnesium. We confirm the necessary controls for the proposed process before accepting the work.
Casting-first assessment
A finished-part drawing may not show whether the raw casting has enough material in the right places. We review the casting and machined part together.
Start with the casting
The raw part matters as much as the drawing.
AZ91D castings can arrive with dimensional variation, uneven stock, or features that leave little room for machining. A finished-part drawing alone may not establish whether the casting can clean up while preserving the required dimensions.
We review datum references, stock allowance, clamping areas, critical interfaces, and dimensions controlled after machining. If the casting condition or available stock is unclear, we ask for more information before deciding whether the part is suitable for production.
Stock and variation
We look for limited or uneven stock at critical faces and bores, and variation that affects locating or cleanup.
Location and stability
We consider cast-surface datums, thin sections, clamping sensitivity, and features tied to casting-to-machined references.
Material details
Tell us what AZ91D material you are supplying.
We do not assume all AZ91D castings have the same stock condition or machining suitability. We assess the details you provide against the part requirements.
Specification and condition
Include the material specification and revision, casting condition, any specified heat treatment or finishing status, and available certificates or documentation.
Casting source and status
Tell us whether you supply the castings or want us to review a sourcing arrangement. Note any restrictions on repairs, blends, or cosmetic rework.
Handling requirements
Share customer-specific EHS requirements, material-handling rules, and supplier qualification conditions that apply to the work.
Technical review
We assess the details that determine a reliable route.
Select a review area to see what we check. Our process depends on the part geometry, casting condition, drawing requirements, and safety controls—not simply the material name.
Machining allowance, datums, and casting variation
Where practical, provide a casting drawing or model as well as the finished-part drawing. Sample-casting inspection data can help us understand variation and assess whether stock remains at critical features.
- — Check stock at functional faces, bores, and mounting features.
- — Review hole positions referenced from cast surfaces and relationships between cast and machined datums.
- — Consider thin walls or sections that may be sensitive to clamping.
- — Flag dimensions that may need a revised datum or machining sequence.
Choose operations to suit the part
Our equipment inventory includes CNC milling centers, CNC lathes, turn-mill machines, automatic turning equipment, and Swiss-type lathes. Depending on geometry and project requirements, we can evaluate milling, turning, or a combination of operations.
A cast housing with machined mounting faces may need a different setup from a turned component or a small part with cross-holes and milled flats. Listed machine precision figures are equipment specifications, not a blanket tolerance promise. Achievable tolerances depend on part size, geometry, material condition, setup, and inspection method.
Confirm controls before considering a quote
Magnesium machining requires appropriate controls for chips, fines, and dust. Our general CNC equipment list does not by itself establish that a particular machine, process, or facility arrangement is suitable for AZ91D work.
We confirm relevant handling and housekeeping requirements for the proposed operation. If necessary controls cannot be confirmed, we may decline the work or ask to resolve the gap before issuing a quotation.
Inspection planning
We use drawing-based planning and have listed resources including a CMM, optical measuring systems, height-measuring instruments, surface-roughness testing, hardness testing, and dimensional gauges. The method depends on the feature and acceptance criteria.
Surface and inspection
Define what needs to be measured—and what needs to look right.
A machined surface may have different requirements from an as-cast surface. Identify functional and cosmetic areas, surface-finish callouts, and any required coating or post-machining treatment. We do not infer cosmetic acceptance criteria from a general drawing note.
Tell us which characteristics are critical and what records you need, including dimensional reports, material documentation, or project-specific records. YJCNC’s stated quality management certifications include ISO 9001, ISO 13485, AS9100D, ISO 14001, and IATF 16949; applicability is subject to valid certification scope and project requirements.
Project fit
Prototype, repeat orders, and production—subject to review.
Our CNC capabilities support prototype development, repeat orders, and production runs, subject to project requirements and feasibility review. AZ91D casting projects may fit when the casting supply, machining stock, drawing requirements, and safe processing conditions are sufficiently defined.
We work with OEMs, industrial equipment manufacturers, engineering teams, and contract manufacturers producing custom components to drawings. For repeat supply, share expected quantities, forecast information, and any changes between prototype and production requirements.
